32 FOR SKYBET DASH - Group Three winner La Cucaracha a possible starter reveals owner Guy Reed

A total of 32 horses have been entered for the £50,000 Skybet Dash Heritage Handicap, the highlight of York's seven-race programme on Saturday, July 23.

Several high-class performers have been entered for the six-furlong contest including Beckermet, who has a string of decent efforts to his name this season, including a second to Iffraaj over the course and distance in the Wokingham Handicap on June 18 and was successful last Saturday in the Listed Trailfinders Stakes at Newbury.

The Barry Hills-trained filly La Cucaracha also put up a decent effort over the course and distance last time out when runner-up to Lucky Spin in the Group Three Cuisine De France Summer Stakes on July 8 and on her penultimate outing landed the Group Three Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown, Ireland.

Guy Reed, owner/breeder of La Cucaracha, reported today: "La Cucaracha is also entered over five furlongs at Newbury on Sunday and we don't really know at this point in time which race we are going to go for.

"My trainer say she is equally effective at five or six furlongs, although her best form so far has been at six furlongs and that may be the route we choose to go down. We will look at see what we're up against before we make a decision as to where she goes.

"She runs best on firm ground and certainly doesn't seem to like very soft ground. She didn't run badly at all at York last time, where the winner came from a bit out of the blue.

"We will decide later this week where she goes. I am down on the Mediterranean at the moment and am in the same position - I have two girls and don't know what to do!"

Two progressive three-year-olds in the line-up are the Peter Chapple-Hyam's Danzili Bay and the Mark Johnston-trained Spirit Of France.

Danzili Bay has won two of his three last three starts, with his latest victory coming over six furlongs at Haydock on July 2, when he won by a comfortable length and a half.

Spirit Of France had endured a slightly disappointing season before coming good on his latest start when successful on his latest start in the Tennents Scottish Stewards Cup over six furlongs at Hamilton on July 15, when he got the better of Fantasy Believer, also entered in the Skybet Dash, by half a length.

Sprint wizard Dandy Nicholls has two to choose from in Danzig River and recent Pontefract scorer Pieter Brueghel while other interesting contenders include Look Heres Carol, fourth in the Group Three Cuisine De France Summer Stakes over the course and distance last time out, Richard Guest's Listed-placed performer Yomalo, Whinhill House from the in-form David Barker yard as well as David Barron's duo of Partners In Jazz, fourth in the Bunbury Cup last time out and Rising Shadow, third on his last two appearances in decent handicaps at Epsom and Newcastle.

Dale Tempest, Sky Bet PR Director, commented: "La Cucaracha has been the best backed of the fancied horses so far which would hopefully indicate she'll be heading for York and the Sky Bet Dash.

"If she does come North she'll have to be at her very best to be competitive against what promises to be a fantastic line up of sprinters."

The maximum field for the Skybet Dash is 20.
