ALJABR STAMPS HIS CLASS ON BIG NEWBURY RACE

Aljabr, the hot favourite, made all the running to win the Group One Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes by two lengths at Newbury today.

The four-year-old Storm Cat colt led from the start in the mile contest over the straight course and, after looking potentially in trouble two furlongs out, ran on well to beat Trans Island and Indian Lodge.

This is the third year is succession that Godolphin has captured the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes, with Fly To The Stars successful in 1999 and Cape Cross in 1998.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: "He is stronger mentally and physically than last year and maybe he will stay a mile and a quarter."

Godolphin Double

Godolphin started the day well when Sea Wave won the Listed Grundon Recycle Stakes at Newbury.
