ROUTE GOES TO WETHERBY

Direct Route bypasses the Pertemps King George and instead heads to the Castleford Chase at Wetherby.

However, trainer Howard Johnson has stated that the gelding may yet be withdrawn if the ground is too soft and might wait until the spring, when he will hopefully have his favoured top-of-the-ground, before his next appearance.

Adie Smith will partner Direct Route, as Norman Williamson will be riding at Kempton.

In a separate deal, Ladbrokes Racing Wyoming Inc has entered into a conditional contract to sell its Pennsylvania racetrack to Magna Entertainmentt Crop in the US for $53 million.

LATEST NEWS FROM NAD AL SHEBA

Despite the 2000/2001 season yet to reach its halfway mark, reigning champion jockey Ted Durcan is the universal choice to successfully defend the title by seasonıs end after the riderıs magnificent four-timer at Nad Al Sheba last Thursday night .

The strength of the horses owned by Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and Zabeel Stables trainer Satish Seemar is certain to keep Durcan amongst the winners and the four winners at Nad Al Sheba came immediately after his double at Abu Dhabi the previous evening.

Durcanıs four timer began with the Purebred Arabian EA Al-Naki and then followed with Pentagonal and Nadeem, for Kiaran McLaughlin, and Cable Media Boy, for Satish Seemar.

Pentagonal and Cable Media Boy are owned by Sheikh Rashid while EA Al-Naki and Nadeem are owned by his younger brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.

Durcanıs six winners over the weekend has seem head go to the front on the jockeyıs championship relegating Michael Hills to second while he also secured enough points to assume the lead in the Steve Cauthen Award, a title he won last season.

A week after preparing his first Emirates winner, New Zealand trainer Graeme Rogerson was back in the winnerıs stall at Nad Al Sheba, this time with quality Australian-bred sprinter Flight Pattern.

Dubai Down Under provided Rogerson with his first winner and it was Flight Pattern, a former winner of the Listed Clipsal Sprint at Morphettville, that gave him his second, denying the late finish of Dehoush to win the main sprint event on the programme.

Dehoushıs effort was very good, the son of Diesis, not having raced since his unplaced effort behind Ekraar in Group III company at Haydock in August.

The distance was far short of his best however Dehoush appreciated the fast pace set by Mile High and got to the line strongly.

Flight Pattern will now be aimed at the Al Shindagha Sprint over the same 1,200m turf course at Nad Al Sheba on January 11.

Flight Patternıs performance was yet another winner for the in form apprentice Keith Dalgleish who has become very popular with trainers keen to utilise his 2.5kg claim.

Hobb Alwathan, the half-brother to the champion Dubai Millennium, disappointed on his Emirates debut when managing only ninth behind Jeryann in the Maiden.

Hobb Alwathan raced handily and looked set to be in the finish at the top of the straight however after receiving slight interference at the top of the straight he faded in the run home.
