TWO WINNERS FROM FOUR SELECTIONS FOR THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN SO FAR THIS YEAR AFTER JAIR DE COCHET WON YESTERDAY AT 11/4.

ON JANUARY 10 THERE WAS A 15/2 WINNER

The Value Betting Column, which appears every Saturday on racenews.co.uk and is completely free of charge, has started the year well by advising two winners out of four selections, one for each Saturday of the year to date.

Yesterday, Saturday, January 24, the value was with JAIR DE COCHET in the Pillar Property Chase at Cheltenham and two weeks (January 10, 2004) before that there was the15/2 winner Southern Star in the Tote Classic Chase at Warwick.

Jair De Cochet was advised at 7/2 and won at 11/4.

Similarly, the Henrietta Knight-trained Southern Star was 10/1 when advised and won from outsider Jurancon II who was also favourably mentioned.

The Value Betting Column usually only selects one horse every Saturday

Visit racenews.co.uk every Saturday. See yesterday’s full column below.

Going - Good, good to soft in places

BP = best odds offered from Blue Square, Ladbrokes, Tote, Stanleybet. Bet365, William Hill. For the latest odds click on to the BritOdds.com link above.

3.05pm £80,000 Pillar Property Chase (Class A) Grade 2 (6yo+) 3m 1f 110yds

1) 211P Jair Du Cochet 29 Guillaime Macaire 7-11-10 Jacques Ricou
One of the top novices last year and finished second in the Royal & SunAlliance Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Won the Peterborough Chase from Best Mate earlier this season but was never going when favourite for the Pertemps King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. He is worth another chance as he prefers to race in small fields and get his own way..

BP= 7/2 Ladbrokes & Bet365

2) 23F2 Rince Ri 6 TedWalsh 11-11-10 Ruby Walsh
Won this race in 2002 on heavy ground. Consistent sort who would prefer softer ground and is not getting any younger.

BP= 14/1 Bet 365 and William Hill

3) -F3F Valley Henry 29 Howard Johnson 9-11-10 Graham Lee
His jumping always has been a problem. Had his first run for trainer Howard Johnson last time out and was going well when he came down in the King George. Well beaten fourth in this race last year but did much better in the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup when occupying the same place two months later. Does not want the ground too soft so conditions may suit.

BP= 15/2 Ladbrokes

4) -F12 Sir Rembrandt 28 Robert Alner 8-11-06 Andrew Thornton
One of the up and coming horses. Game, talented and progressive chaser who won at Chepstow and then ran a great race to be second in the Coral Welsh National. Had a hard race then, which was four weeks ago, and need to have recovered. Seems to act on all ground.

BP= 11/4 Blue Square, Ladbrokes, Stanleybet, Bet365,

5) -42F Truckers Tavern 28 Ferdy Murphy 911-06t Tony Dobbin
Second in the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup last year and has yet to hit the heights this season. Fell when going OK at Wetherby last time out.

BP= 6/1 Stanleybet

6) 1111 Therealbandit 23 Martin Pipe 7-11-03 Tony McCoy
The talking horse. Very promising horse who has won his two novice chases to date, both at Cheltenham. This is his hardest test to date and he is worth opposing.

BP= 5/2 Blue Square, Tote, Stanleybet

SUMMARY
A fascinating and open race. JAIR DE COCHET is the value because of his proven ability and potential.

IMPRESSIVE WIN FOR PELADITO

Peladito, trained by Erwan Charpy and ridden by Seb Sanders, landed the fifth race, the 1,600 metre Al Ashoosh Thoroughbred Handicap, by an impressive six and a half lengths at Nad Al Sheba yesterday (Saturday) evening.

The race was taken along by the Daragh O’Donohoe-partnered Bo’ortchou, but Peladito made progress to lead in the straight and set sail for home. My Pleasure and Ted Durcan ran on for second with Pfennig in third.

Badran, trained by Yancey Carter Jr and ridden by David Hayse, took the lead 200 metres from the line and ran on for a four length win in the opener, the Al Waheydah Purebred Arabian Handicap over 1,700 metres. Richard Hills and Al Kesbe made the running but could not stay on terms when Badran went past.

Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum partnered Maxim to victory in the Tawi Saif Thoroughbred Handicap over 2,400 metres for amateur riders.

Navideno, under Michalle Saunders, led the eight runner field with Maxim making progress to lead 400 metres and ran on to a three and three quarter length win.

Lord Of Moray, under apprentice William Lee, gave trained Peter Brette his first win of the season when taking the Al Hebab Thoroughbred Handicap over the straight 1,000 metres. Lord Of Moray was always going well and got up in front of the Paul Hanagan-partnered Alton 50 metres from the line to win by a length and a quarter.

Bo Bid’s battle to the line was successful when he held on to win the Al Eyaf Thoroughbred Handicap over 1,100 metres under Durcan. Trained by Mazin Al Kurdi, Bo Bid was always going well and got up to lead from Mardoof 200 metres out and ran for a neck win from the Richard Mullen-partnered Restructured.

Willie Supple and trainer Doug Watson teamed up to take the last, the Seih Ashwe’ab Thoroughbred Handicap over 1,800 metres, with the six-year-old Early Assault. The son of Danewin came from mid-division to lead approaching the four metre mark and ran on for a length and a half win.
