THE VALUE BETTING COLUMN EVERY SATURDAY
THE TOTE SCOOP6 LANZAROTE HURDLE RACE (SHOWCASE HANDICAP) (CLASS B), KEMPTON PARK, UK.
3.05pm SATURDAY, JANUARY 19, TWO MILES
GOING: GOOD TO SOFT (GOOD IN PLACES)
BP = best price of Coral Eurobet, Tote, William Hill and Ladbrokes
1) 110-421 Tysou (FR) 5-12-00 Nicky Henderson Marcus Foley (5)
A useful novice for Micky Hammond last season before joining Nicky Henderson at the start of the current campaign. Ran well in a coupe of decent novice chases on first two starts this season before defeating Fait Le Jojo (subsequently second in Ladbroke) in a handicap hurdle at Doncaster. Went up 9lb for that and has a tougher task here but goes well for Marcus Foley who takes 5lb off and cannot be discounted.
BP= 6 Tote, Coral Eurobet
2) 635053- Copeland 7-11-13v Martin Pipe Robert Thornton
Last win was at Sandown in December, 1999, and generally looked to be in the grip of the handicapper throughout last season. Had a couple of uninspiring runs on the Flat over the summer and doesn’t make much appeal here, especially as he may need further over hurdles.
BP= 14 Ladbrokes, Tote, W Hill
3) 150-244 Impek (FR) 6-11-07 Henrietta Knight NON-RUNNER
4) 26-2201 Haditovski 6-11-00v John Mackie Carl Rafter (3)
An interesting contender. Has been in good form this season, finishing second at Huntingdon and Newbury (to Marble Arch) and came good last time out at with an easy success at Uttoxeter last time out, making all. Trainer’s southern raiders usually merit respect but would prefer softer ground.
BP= 8 Ladbrokes, W Hill
5) 221/11/-5 Maousse Honor (FR) 7-10-12 Martin Pipe Tom Scudamore
A useful performer in France before winning two novice hurdles at Worcester and Newton Abbott for Martin Pipe in 1999. Off the track for over two years before running fairly well to be fifth at Newbury last month when favourite, fading after attempting to make all. Dropped 1lb in ratings and may need to come down more.
BP= 6 Coral
6) 10-0P35 Moving On Up 8-10-12 bl Charlie Mann Jimmy McCarthy
Formerly with Dermot Weld in Ireland, for whom he showed reasonable form. First run for Charlie Mann at Ascot last week was not very inspirational and others would appear to be coming into the race in much better form. May need to drop further in handicap or try longer trip.
BP= 9 Ladbrokes, Tote
7) 315-664 Konker 7-10-11 Mary Reveley Andrew Garrity (5)
Useful performer at best, both on the Flat and over hurdles. Appeared to come back to something near his form last time out but will need to raise his game if he is to figure here.
BP= 14 Coral Eurobet
8) 143112 Rob Leach 5-10-10 bl Gary Moore Ben Hitchcott (3)
Has taken to hurdles really well and won two novice events at Plumpton before making the successful transition to handicap company when taking the valuable William Hill Handicap Hurdle at Sandown in December. Also ran well on his latest at Newbury but the handicapper is probably starting to catch up with him.
9) P-20411 Majlis (IRE) 5-10-6 bl Tom George David Dennis (3)
Showed good form in decent novice events without winning last season but has got his act together this season with wins in a novice event at Wincanton and also a conditional jockeys handicap hurdle at Taunton. This is his toughest task to date but could be an improving sort.
BP= 15/2 Coral Eurobet
10) 4150-64 Jocko Glasses 5-10-05 Nicky Henderson John Kavanagh
A useful juvenile last season if somewhat short of top class. Latest run behind Telemoss at Haydock showed he was returning to something like his best form and looks to be on a decent racing weight here. Is down a further 1lb and this is the time of year that the trainer is in form.
BP= 12 Tote, William Hill
11) 200-231 Pagan King (IRE) 6-10-00 Lucy Wadham Leighton Aspell
Appear to have improved this season and won over the course and distance last time out. However, it is questionable that he beat much and this is by far his toughest task to date.
BP= 7 all
12) 3220/U-6 Renzo (IRE) 9-10-0 John Harris Rupert Wakley
Was once a tough and versatile if quirky campaigner, but looked as time may be catching up with him when last behind Tysou last time at Doncaster and cannot be fancied here.
BP= 40 W Hill
13) F12-322 Route Sixty Six (IRE) 6-10-00 Jedd O'Keeffe Barry Fenton
Moderate Flat handicapper who has shown better form over hurdles, including when chasing home Pagan King here at Kempton last time out. No real reason why he should reverse that form on 2lb better terms and is also running from 3lb out of the handicap but is much better value than Pagan King.
BP=20 Ladbrokes, Tote
14) 212005 Yakareem (IRE) 6-10-00t David Bridgwater P. J. Brennan (5)
Very hard to fancy from 20lb out of the handicap.
BP=100 Ladbrokes, Tote, William Hill
Nicky Henderson seems to hold the key with his two runners but lower-weighted runners seem to do the best in this race so JOCKO GLASSES, who showed he was on the way back last time out, is excellent value each-way at 12/1.
