1,000 WINNERS WORLDWIDE

www.godolphin.com reported today Godolphin celebrated its 1,000th winner when Highlander took the David Ashley Construction Limited Maiden Stakes (Div I) at Nottingham, England, on Wednesday, October 19.

It is less than 13 years since Godolphin enjoyed its first victory with Cutwater in the Hooyer Stakes at Nad Al Sheba on December 24, 1992.

The Dubai-based operation is synonymous with Group One excellence on the international stage thanks to a remarkable 123 victories at the highest level.

One of the many highlights was Dubai Millennium whose scintillating performances on the track secured four Group One prizes, most famously the 2000 Dubai World Cup at Nad Al Sheba where he defeated a top-class field of international runners by six lengths with a brilliant display of front running.

Godolphin's roll of honour includes many of the stars of horseracing over the past decade, including Balanchine, Lammtarra, Halling, Swain, Daylami, Sakhee, Fantastic Light, Grandera and Sulamani.

Dubai Millennium's son, Dubawi, has flown the flag this season with Group One successes in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the Prix Jacques le Marois, alongside Shamardal, winner of the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, Prix du Jockey Club and St James's Palace Stakes.

Cherry Mix provided the most recent win at the top level when capturing the Gran Premio del Jockey Club E Coppa d'Oro at San Siro in Italy on Sunday, October 16.

Frankie Dettori rode Godolphin's first Group One and Classic winner - Balanchine in the 1994 Epsom Oaks - and he was again up on top as Highlander captured the 1,000th win.

Dettori said this afternoon: "To come here on a wet Wednesday at Nottingham and reach the Godolphin 1,000 is a remarkable achievement in this short space of time.

"We started with four horses and the first one to carry the flag really was Balanchine - she was a remarkable filly.

"She was second in the Guineas and gave me my first Classic as well as ending up with an Irish Derby.

"I guess her success inspired Sheikh Mohammed to develop and make Godolphin bigger and a worldwide operation. I think in 11 years he's pretty much achieved that."

Saeed bin Suroor, the Godolphin trainer, said: "It is a great result for Godolphin. All the staff have worked very hard to achieve this feat and I am delighted for them as well as myself."

"We are now looking forward to another 1,000 winners."
